Juegos macabros

Cortesía brutal e inocentes en rehenes

Con una respetabilísima carrera y buen número de importantes premios en su haber, Michael Haneke ha dirigido, entre otras, La profesora de piano y Escondido (Caché). En ambos filmes ya se vislumbra —al igual que en la más reciente A White Ribbon, que le dio la palma de oro en Cannes— parte de la temática central de Juegos macabros: el sadismo. Cabe destacar que esta cinta es la versión estadounidense de la película austriaca del mismo título, dirigida por el propio Haneke y estrenada en 1997.
Todo se inicia cuando dos muchachos toman en rehén a una familia joven. Por cierto, ambos visten completamente de blanco, a la usanza de la pandilla de Alex, el antihéroe de La naranja mecánica, de Kubrick. En ambos casos, se rinde un culto a la violencia difícil de explicar: vivaz y salvaje en Kubrick, refinado y cruel en Haneke.
El director ha optado por un ritmo lento en la narración y, pese a ello, con el hábil uso de otros elementos dramáticos y narrativos, la película jamás pierde el interés. Hay que destacar la impresionante actuación de Naomy Watts (Ann), estupendamente dirigida, aunque no opaca gran cosa a los demás actores.
Hay secuencias realmente memorables, como aquella larguísima en que Ann y George (Tim Roth) quedan solos en la sala, con el televisor encendido y ensangrentado. El personaje de Michael Pitt —quien ya fuera dirigido por Gus Van Sant en Last Days y por Bernardo Bertolucci en Los soñadores— es absolutamente impasible ante el dolor ajeno, y además, es quien domina la situación, a diferencia de su compañero Peter (Brady Corbet).
Por el lado de la historia, Haneke no ha dejado nada suelto. Todos los elementos son creíbles, y se complementan debidamente. Los interesantes símbolos presentes en la película la enriquecen, como aquel atrevido rebobinado o los contrastes musicales. Por eso y más, Juegos macabros es uno de los mejores estrenos del año en nuestro país.
